SAUGERTIES – A Saugerties man was charged with drug possession after police found him passed out in his car early Thursday morning.
According to police, officers on routine patrol came across the car, a 2019 Nissan, parked in the middle of Dawes Street in the Village of Saugerties with the engine still running at 3:16 a.m. Thursday.
The driver, identified by police as David R. Mencke, 29, of Commons Lane in the Town of Saugerties, was passed out on the front seat of the vehicle, police said.
According to police, Mencke was in possession of 50 decks of heroin stamped with the name “ANTHRAX,” along with an undisclosed quantity of marijuana and more than $1,500 in cash.
Mencke was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
He was arraigned at police headquarters by an Ulster County Court judge using virtual arraignment procedures and released on his own recognizance, pending a May 18 appearance in Village of Saugerties Court.
