Minden, NY – On May 2, 2020, at approximately 8:45 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-90 in the town of Minden for a vehicle and traffic violation. While the Trooper was approaching the vehicle, the driver sped off from the shoulder of the roadway and a pursuit ensued. After several minutes and traveling over 100 mph, the driver, who was later identified as Tatiyana M. Thomas, 20, of Jamaica, NY, pulled onto the shoulder and stopped the car while one of the occupants fled from the scene on foot.
Thomas exited the vehicle and was taken into custody at which time probable cause was established to search the vehicle and the remaining occupants. While conducting the search, 48 sealed bags of marijuana totaling approximately 211 grams, was located inside the vehicle.
The fleeing passenger was located and taken into custody by the Canajoharie Police Department and returned to the scene. The passenger was identified as Jaleek V. Grier, 23, of Rockaway, NY, and was taken into custody by State Police.
Both Thomas and Grier were transported to SP Schuyler for processing. Thomas was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree; a Class A Misdemeanor and Grier was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana 4th degree; a Class A Misdemeanor.
The two were released on an appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Minden Court on June 8, 2020.
