(St. Paul, MN) — A bill introduced in the Minnesota House would legalize recreational cannabis use for adults over 21. The measure sponsored by Majority Leader Ryan Winkler allows for possession of one-and-a-half ounces of marijuana in public and up to ten pounds in a private home. Winkler and other lawmakers gathered input at town hall meetings throughout the state. He said the COVID-19 pandemic is their top priority – but he wanted to put a strong bill forward after getting citizens’ feedback. The bill also would expunge marijuana possession convictions for many Minnesotans. The Republican Senate majority leader opposes legalizing recreational marijuana.
