Let us accept that nowadays, we have a negative notion when we hear the term marijuana, and now weed oil and cannabis concentrates. After all, it pretty much earned a bad reputation over these years. It earned a reputation as something that all of us must turn our back to and stay away from, but Alcohol is Ok? Mmmmm… But before we even do that, we must look into first the medical benefits that we all can derive from it. And in the recent years, the benefits of marijuana have been a hot topic for almost everyone. There are plenty of talks when it comes to the benefits of the marijuana plants as well as the oil derived from its seeds that can help especially to different ailments which include Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma, and arthritis, to name a few. But the name of marijuana bridges the dark side towards the light when it has been said that the cannabis oil can be a great alternative treatment needed by cancer patients.
Because of these breakthroughs and studies that are coming out one after the other, the term “medicinal marijuana” has been coined in the medical field. But this term is not new. In fact, history would show us that people have been cultivating marijuana for thousands of years. Even in ancient times, marijuana was used in many instances. One example of this would be the cannabis that was found in a 2700-year old shaman grave in Central Asia. And in different cultures, marijuana has proven to contribute a big purpose for them. But more often that not, it is commended for the medicinal purpose that it lives up to.
However, in 1939, the Congress made a law that prohibits the Americans from using cannabis whether it is for recreational or therapeutic purposes. Come 1970, marijuana was officially classified as part of the controlled substances. When it happened, both the conventional medical and naturopathic communities were not able to use it.
But today, such law was lifted which paved the ways for the medical industry to really look into the medical benefits that it can give especially for cancer. This is even well associated when it comes to the marijuana oil that is found to be helping cancer patients.
The THC in cannabis oil really makes wonders for cancer patients. How? The THS is known to connect to with the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors that are found inside the cells. When this happens, it leads to the ceramide synthesis. Such influx leads for a cancer cell to die. And this is something that cancer patients are reconsidering instead of undergoing chemotherapy. Unlike chemotherapy, the cannabis oil only has an adverse effect on the cancer cells and not to the healthy cells which are needed to make a person with cancer survive. The good thing about it is the fact that when a normal cell is exposed to the THC, it will no longer produce ceramide. And when this happens, it only means that the normal cells remain untouched. For the most part, the cytotoxic chemicals are not the reason why the cancer cells are facing its demise. It is actually shifting of the mitochondria which are the energy source of the cells. Hence, many cancer patients now are looking for the help of a naturopathic doctor to guide in alternative cancer treatment such as the marijuana oil.
