State lawmakers this year made Illinois the 11th state to allow recreational use of marijuana, starting Jan. 1. The legislation allows local governments to decide whether to allow dispensaries and businesses within its boundaries.
The Decatur City Council on Monday voted 6-1 to “opt out” of allowing dispensaries, and 4-3 not to allow related businesses like growing and processing centers. The village of Forsyth has also decided against allowing cannabis sales.
The governing boards of Mount Zion and Macon County have not yet made a decision.
